What to check first

  1. 1

Check the coolant level in the overflow tank — if it's low, top up and look for the source of the loss before doing anything else.

  2. 2

Locate the 2-pin connector on the thermostat housing and inspect for green corrosion or a pulled-out terminal — clean with contact spray.

  3. 3

Clear the code, restart the engine and run it to operating temperature — if the code returns within 10 minutes, the sensor has failed.

Likely causes

  1. 1

    Failed coolant temperature sensorMost likely

The sensor is the first thing to check. On most Magnum tractors, it's located on the thermostat housing on the top of the engine.

  2. 2

    Damaged or corroded wiring connectorPossible

The 2-pin connector at the sensor is prone to moisture ingress. Clean and inspect the terminals — green corrosion is common on older machines.

  3. 3

Open circuit in the sensor harnessLess common

Trace the wiring back toward the cab. Rodent damage is common near the firewall.
