John Deere Error Code ECU 000091.03 — What It Means and How to Fix It
Applies to: 5E Series (5045E-5075E), 5M Series (5065M-5115M), 6M Series, 6R Series, 7R Series, 8R Series
Try cycling the key off for 30 seconds and restart. If throttle still doesn't respond, check the pedal sensor connector for corrosion or moisture.
Throttle Position Sensor Signal Out of Range High
The foot throttle sensor is sending a voltage signal that exceeds the maximum expected range. The ECU will default to a limited RPM mode or refuse to respond to throttle input.

What to check first
- 1
Cycle the key — off for 30 seconds, restart. If the code clears and throttle works, monitor for recurrence
- 2
Check the throttle pedal connector — disconnect, look for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture, reconnect firmly
- 3
Trace the wire from the pedal to the harness — look for rodent damage, chafing near metal edges, or heat damage
Likely causes
- 1
Corroded or loose connector at throttle pedal— Most likely
DIYOn 5E series tractors, this connector is particularly exposed to moisture and mud splash from the operator platform.
- 2
Failed throttle position sensor (internal wear)— Possible
DIYThe potentiometer wiper wears over time. Replacement takes 15-30 minutes.
- 3
Wiring damage (rodent damage, chafing)— Possible
DIYVery common on farm equipment stored in barns where mice nest.
- 4
Water/moisture ingress into connector— Possible
DIYDry out with compressed air, apply dielectric grease to prevent recurrence.
- 5
ECU connector issue— Less common
ShopRare. If cleaning/replacing the pedal sensor doesn't fix it, dealer diagnosis recommended.
