John Deere Error Code ECU 000094.16 — What It Means and How to Fix It

Applies to: All Tier 4 Interim and Tier 4 Final JD engines, 5E/5M/5R Series with T4 engines, 6M/6R Series, 7R/8R/9R Series, S Series Combines

WARNING — Power derated. Investigate fuel system.

Replace fuel filters if they haven't been changed recently. Check for a kinked fuel return line. If filters are fresh, the fuel pressure sensor may be faulty.

JD ECU 000094.16John DeereManually verified

Low-Pressure Fuel Supply — Pressure Moderately High

The fuel pressure in the low-pressure supply circuit is reading higher than the expected range. This can indicate a restriction in the fuel return line, a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or a sensor issue. The ECU will derate power to protect the fuel injection system.

Repair difficulty

DIY — Basic tools

Repair time

15 min

Dealer cost

$200-400

What to check first

  1. 1

Check fuel level and drain the fuel/water separator if your model has one

  2. 2

Replace both fuel filters (primary water separator and secondary fine filter) — this is the fix 60% of the time

  3. 3

Trace the fuel return line from the engine back to the tank looking for kinks, pinches, or damage

Likely causes

  1. 1

    Clogged fuel filter(s)Most likely

    DIY

The single most common fix for fuel pressure codes on Tier 4 engines. Replace both filters.

  2. 2

Contaminated fuel (water, sediment, algae growth)Most likely

    DIY

Common in humid climates. Drain the water separator. If fuel looks cloudy, the tank may need draining.

  3. 3

Blocked or kinked fuel return linePossible

    DIY

A kinked return line causes pressure to build. Visual inspection along the full length of the line.

  4. 4

    Fuel pressure regulator failureLess common

    DIY

Located on or near the fuel filter housing on most models. Stuck or failed regulator allows pressure to rise.

  5. 5

    Faulty fuel pressure sensorLess common

    DIY

If filters are fresh and return line is clear, the sensor itself may be reading incorrectly.

Parts needed

Tools needed

  • Filter wrench or strap wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Clean rags
  • Fuel-safe container (for draining water separator)

Pro tip

Always keep fuel tank full when parking the tractor — this minimises condensation inside the tank. And change your filters on schedule, not when they cause problems.
