Repair time

5 min

Dealer cost

$100-200

What to check first

  1. 1

Open the air filter housing (large box on the right side of the engine bay) and remove the outer (primary) filter element

  2. 2

If visibly dirty or clogged with dust/chaff, replace with a spare. If no spare, tap gently on a hard surface to dislodge loose debris

  3. 3

Refit the housing, make sure seals are seated properly, and cycle the key to clear the code

Likely causes

  1. 1

Dirty air filter (needs replacement)Most likely

    DIY

By far the most common cause. Change more frequently in dusty conditions — daily during harvest if needed.

  2. 2

Air filter restriction switch stuck closedLess common

    DIY

The switch itself can fail. If a new filter doesn't clear the code, test or replace the switch.

  3. 3

Collapsed or damaged air intake hoseLess common

    DIY

A soft or collapsed intake hose between the filter and turbo creates excessive restriction.

  4. 4

    Pre-cleaner/aspirator screen blockedPossible

    DIY

Common in cotton, hay, or chaff-heavy environments. Check the pre-cleaner bowl and screen.
