Likely causes

    Overdue hydraulic filter— Most likely

    The most common cause by far. JD recommends replacing the hydraulic filter every 500 hours. High-use machines in dusty conditions may need it sooner.

    Failed bypass sensor (false alarm)— Possible

    The bypass switch can fail closed, triggering the code even with a clean filter. If the code returns immediately after a filter change, suspect the sensor.

    Contaminated hydraulic fluid— Less common

    Water or fuel contamination causes rapid filter plugging. If the filter is new and already blocked, check the fluid condition.
