Likely causes
- 1
Low hydraulic fluid level— Most likely
Check the sight glass on the rear axle housing. On MF 7700/8700, the hydraulic system shares fluid with the transmission and rear axle.
- 2
Blocked hydraulic suction strainer— Possible
The internal suction strainer rarely needs attention but can block if contaminated fluid has been used or a component has failed internally.
- 3
Worn hydraulic charge pump— Possible
The pump gears wear gradually. A useful test: pressure should recover quickly when the engine revs increase. Slow recovery under increasing RPM suggests pump wear.
