Try cycling the key first. If the tractor still won't move, check the speed sensor connector on the transmission housing.
Transmission Wheel Speed Sensor Fault
The transmission controller is not receiving a signal from the wheel speed sensor. The Dyna-VT or Dyna-6 transmission cannot function correctly without speed data and will enter protective mode, refusing to move.

What to check first
- 1
Cycle the key — off for 60 seconds, restart. Momentary signal loss often clears on restart.
- 2
Locate the wheel speed sensor on the transmission output section and check the connector — disconnect, clean, inspect, reconnect.
- 3
Check sensor wiring for damage — the transmission area is hot and can degrade wiring over time.
Likely causes
- 1
Loose or corroded connector— Most likely
DIYMost common cause. Clean and reconnect firmly.
- 2
Failed speed sensor— Possible
DIYTest resistance: typically 800-1,200 ohms. 0 or infinite = failed.
- 3
Wiring damage— Possible
DIYOil, heat, and vibration degrade wiring near the transmission.
- 4
Sensor air gap too large— Less common
DIYSensor may have backed out of its mounting. Check gap against service manual spec.

Pro tip
This sensor is cheap and easy to replace. Carry a spare during busy seasons. A tractor that won't move during harvest is the definition of expensive downtime.
