Likely causes

  1. 1

Low supply voltage to ECUMost likely

A weak battery or poor battery connection causes ECU voltage to drop below spec, triggering internal fault codes. Check battery voltage (should be 12.6V+ at rest) and battery terminal condition.

  2. 2

Water ingress to ECU or connectorPossible

MF 7700/8700 ECUs are mounted in areas prone to water ingress. Inspect the ECU and its main connector for signs of moisture.

  3. 3

CAN bus communication error (false ECU fault)Possible

Some E0614 logs are actually downstream from a CAN bus interruption that the ECU reports as its own fault. Look for other active codes.

  4. 4

    Failed ECULess common

Genuine ECU failure is uncommon. Only condemn the ECU after all wiring and power supply issues have been ruled out.
