Likely causes
- 1
Low supply voltage to ECU— Most likely
A weak battery or poor battery connection causes ECU voltage to drop below spec, triggering internal fault codes. Check battery voltage (should be 12.6V+ at rest) and battery terminal condition.
- 2
Water ingress to ECU or connector— Possible
MF 7700/8700 ECUs are mounted in areas prone to water ingress. Inspect the ECU and its main connector for signs of moisture.
- 3
CAN bus communication error (false ECU fault)— Possible
Some E0614 logs are actually downstream from a CAN bus interruption that the ECU reports as its own fault. Look for other active codes.
- 4
Failed ECU— Less common
Genuine ECU failure is uncommon. Only condemn the ECU after all wiring and power supply issues have been ruled out.
